Allopurinol oral tablet is used to treat gout, elevated serum uric acid levels, and certain type of kidney stones.  Kidney and gout problems are caused due to increased uric acid levels and Allopurinol works by reducing the amount of uric acid made by the body.



This medication should usually be taken once daily after a meal or as directed by your doctor. Take this medication after a meal to reduce stomach upset.  Dosage is based on your medical condition and this medication is to be used regularly to get the most benefit from it.   You should drink at least 8-10 glasses of fluids every day.
Allopurinol oral tablet can interact with other medications that you may be taking which can prevent the drug from working well; hence it is advisable to consult your healthcare professional if you are on other medications.
