Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug and works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It is used to treat mild to moderate pain and dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

It is usually taken with food every 6 hours as needed for up to 1 week or as directed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully.

Drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, tiredness, headache, trouble sleeping, nausea, increased urination, or constipation may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
